How to Prepare your Skin for a Wax
Waxing is probably the most popular hair-removal technique used by both men and women. A proper wax can prevent regrowth and ensure soft, smooth skin for several weeks, but needs to properly prepared for. Check out our top 5 tips on how to prepare your skin for a wax and make sure your next appointment runs smoothly! (See what we did there 😉)
1) Check your Skin
Always make sure you’ve properly inspected your skin before a wax. Inflammation or broken skin needs to heal. Also be sure to point out any beauty spots or moles to your beautician to protect them from getting damaged.
2) Allow for Regrowth
Grow out your hair in the area you want waxed for about 2 – 3 weeks before your appointment. Hair that’s too short won’t allow the wax to stick properly, while hair that’s too long will prevent the wax from removing all hair effectively.
3) Exfoliate your Skin
Use a light exfoliation or scrub to remove dead skin cells before your wax. Stay away from heavy scrubs as exfoliation leaves your skin more sensitive to wax. With a rough wash cloth lightly exfoliate your skin by scrubbing in light motions.
4) Moisturize Daily
In days leading up to your appointment, be sure to moisturize your skin. Healthy, well hydrated skin is key to a smooth wax. Skip the moisturizer on the day though, as moisturizer can cause the wax to not stick properly.
5) Relax with the Retinol
Although retinol-based products can do wonders for skin pigmentation and fine lines, they often leave your skin susceptible to light injury or tearing during waxing. Stop using retinol-based products about 2 weeks before an appointment, and accutane at least a month before. Please consult with your dermatologist before making changes to any prescription medication.
